Aizu-Hongo-yaki is a ceramic tradition from Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, with a history spanning over 400 years. Established under the patronage of the Aizu domain lord, it produces both earthenware and porcelain. The craft is known for its nishiki-de (brocade-pattern) decorated ware and sturdy everyday vessels that reflect the resilient spirit of the Aizu region and its harsh northern winters.
